In my opinion there are two things to look forward to in January – Skiing and Seville oranges…

Speciality food is in my bones and here is my curation of the best British Seville Orange Marmalade products to buy and the right equipment to do the job yourself.

Waitrose, Duchy Organic thin cut Seville orange marmalade

Fortnum & Mason, wild orange marmalade
This exceptional marmalade is the product of a single yearly crop of wild oranges, and is therefore rather precious. It has all the attributes of a classic orange marmalade, with the added excitement of being made from untamed oranges, which gives it both character and complexity. It is also the most bitter of our marmalades, which will please the true enthusiast. 340g / £7.50.

Fortnum & Mason, the English essentials hamper
A glorious hamper filled with delicious things to celebrate with and enjoy, Fortnum & Mason’s English Essentials hamper is crammed with classic English favourites such as Fortnum & Mason’s loose-leaf tea – Breakfast Blend and Queen Anne, Sir Nigel’s Vintage Marmalade and a container of excellent Piccadilly Piccalilli and Hot Horseradish. £125.

Fortnum & Mason, Burlington breakfast marmalade
The Earl of Burlington knew a good thing when he saw it – namely 16th century Italian architecture, of which he was a devotee. He would have approved of this marmalade, too, as it is a happy marriage of form and function, and has been carefully constructed to offer a fine-cut peel and plenty of pale golden jelly with every spoonful. 340g / £4.50.

Fortnum & Mason, Monarch full-bodied vintage marmalade
For too many centuries, the regal breakfast has lacked a truly monarchical marmalade. For almost as long, Fortnum’s chefs have striven to create the recipe to crown all others. But at last here it is – a full-bodied, thick-cut, vintage Seville orange marmalade made with soft brown cane sugar. One’s toast will feel highly privileged. 340g / £4.50.

Fortnum & Mason, Sir Nigel’s vintage orange marmalade
This classic vintage marmalade was made by Fortnum’s in the 1920s for actor-manager Sir Nigel Playfair, who asked for a bitter, thick-cut preserve for his toast. Fortnum & Mason met his request with this – a strong, substantial marmalade with a deep flavour and lots of chewy peel. 340g / £4.50.
