From jaw-dropping vistas of the London skyline from Shangri-La at The Shard to gentler riverside views from the newly refurbished Dart Marina Spa and Hotel in Devon, we round up some of the coolest luxury hotels in Britain
Shangri-La at The Shard
With floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the City and beyond, when it comes to views this hotel holds all the aces. Maybe not one for those with a fear of heights – but definitely one for those who like their luxury with a side order of wow factor. Brings new meaning to the expression “taking luxury on to a new level”.
With “rooms that cast their regal gaze across Hyde Park” and Constitution Arch, The Lanesborough in Knightsbridge couldn’t be better placed. Expect serious luxury in guest rooms that are the result of a 18-month refurbishment at the hands of the late doyen of interior design, Alberto Pinto.
Dart Marina Hotel & Spa
Following a £2.5 million investment, Dart Marina Hotel & Spa in Dartmouth, Devon, now has 16 brand-new en-suite bedrooms, each with hand-made 2,700 pocket-sprung mattresses and a restful palette of dove grey, pale duck egg and rich chocolate. Best of all, they all have front row seats to river life.
Not quite as vertiginious as the Shangri-La but stunning all the same, the views from The Mondrian in the South Bank’s Sea Containers House won’t disappoint when you’re sitting up enjoying breakfast in bed or sipping a morning coffee on your own private terrace.
A 1920s townhouse beautifully restored with a modern take on the Art Deco style, The Wellesley has stunning views that look right out over Hyde Park. Don’t feel like walking? Then the Wellesley Rolls-Royce will take you anywhere within a 1.5-mile radius of the hotel.
Olga Polizzi’s Devonshire Regency hotel, Endsleigh, is guaranteed to get hearts soaring. Manicured gardens, a croquet lawn, and magical views across the River Tamar to Cornwall beyond make this former hunting lodge and holiday retreat a very special place indeed to escape the modern world.
