A grand day out at Fawley Court

Posted on by Beyond Bespoke

Fawley Court has undergone a massive renovation over the past decade. Now a private residence open for only the most exclusive events, there is something about The Estate that draws you in from the moment you drive through the wrought iron gates.

We arrived at Fawley Court in Buckinghamshire, recently reopened to the public for the first time after more than 175 years. Having received an invitation to see the house after a ten-year restoration by it’s current owners. The entertainment on the menu; Rolls-Royce test drives, Shooting experience with Purdey Guns, gun dog handling demonstrations and afterwards a fine food lunch.

Fawley Court was designed by none other than Sir Christopher Wren and the magnificent grounds by Cabablility Brown.  Set back from the Thames this neo-classical masterpiece sits five times its length away from the river, 600m along the 2112m The Royal Henley Regatta course and has a private promenade covering approximately half of the course and declared by the Sunday Times as of one of “Britain’s finest stately Homes”.

The day, supported by Rolls-Royce Sunningdale, who had their great team on hand to offer invited guests an experience of driving their cars out on the open road. It was uncanny how these great machines so perfectly reflect what the new owner of Fawley Court has achieved with the restoration of the house. The clever fusion of tradition and contemporary. Step inside to the grand entrance hall and you are met by perfectly restored ornate plasterwork is complemented by modern art and sculpture. Go through to The Wyatt Room which comes alive with notable modern art. Avant-garde sculptures and art add a surprising splash of colour to the Gibbons Room. This is what sets Fawley Court apart from so many stately homes: it celebrates its heritage but in the spirit of contemporary sophistication. Just like a Rolls Royce!

During 2017 they will be hosting a number of exclusive exhibitions, fairs and dinners. They have an Artist in Residence program offering emerging talent a studio on the banks of the river Thames.
