What do you get when you combine an iconic British brand with a thriving, cosmopolitan city full of fashionistas? The launch of luxury British eyewear brand Cutler and Gross, which opened its 900 sq ft new store in Leeds last Thursday. Synonymous with luxury British style, Cutler and Gross has been creating sunglasses and opticals for the discerning client with a sense of individual style for over 46 years.
Beyond Bespoke were delighted to receive an invite to this prestigious event, alongside other guests, all of whom had one thing in common: an appetite for British luxury.
Cutler and Gross hosted an elegant high tea at the Malmaison Hotel, where guests met the legendary Mr Cutler himself and the stylish Design Director, Marie Wilkinson. Both effortlessly entertained and engaged with the guests and enjoyed a high tea which included delicious finger sandwiches, scones and cake served on beautiful china with lashings of tea.
The event then moved on to the new Cutler and Gross store, located in the prestigious Victoria Quarter of the city (often referred to the Burlington Arcade of the North) where it sits alongside other luxury British brands, such as Vivienne Westwood, Harvey Nichols and Mulberry.
We were greeted by the charming Monica Chong, part of Cutler and Gross’s inspiring creative team. The store had been fitted out impeccably with a nod to their recent ‘Circus’ collection which celebrates artistry, craftsmanship, creativity and, of course, the theatre of the circus. Every exacting detail had been executed with the highest level of care and precision.
Guests were encouraged to try on both sunglasses and glasses, with considered suggestions and consultations from Marie and her team. Many of the guests were able to find their perfect pair of frames – the only deliberation being which ones to pick.
The event was very positively received and it was unanimously agreed that Leeds has added a fantastic British luxury brand to its ever-expanding collection.
