World of Wedgwood, the global tourist attraction offering the ultimate Wedgwood brand experience exclusive event opens its Christmas programme ‘A wonderful Wedgwood Christmas Tale’ in Barlaston, Stoke on Trent. The tourist attraction is open from 26 November to 23 December 2016.
This interactive brand experience marks a first for Wedgwood in its evolution from a product centric approach to a consumer centric experience which is brought to life in a 360 degree Omni channel way. Suitable for all the family, one can experience an enchanting Christmas story which incorporates the history of Wedgwood into a tale nodding to the English wit, originality and creativity of Josiah Wedgwood.
The programme features the witty Mr. Alexander Chisholm who lives through a series of magical moments on Christmas Eve. Alexander Chisholm was Josiah Wedgwood’s chief chemist, loyal assistant and friend and played a very special role in his family, living with him under the same roof in Etruria Hall, tutoring his children.
The magical installation takes visitors on a journey seen through the eyes of Alexander Chisholm. This journey will pass shimmering Christmas trees, mythical creatures, inspiring table settings and beautiful gifts. Along the way, visitors will have a chance to pick up styling and entertaining tips from a range of creative voices to help them make their Christmas season even more special for family and friends – from decorating a tree and setting a table to wrapping gifts.
During the experience visitors can enjoy a tea tasting program, curated by tea expert Bernadine Tay, who will explore a new perspective on teas as well as proposing inspiring food matching ideas.
Guests are also encouraged to share their joy of Christmas through writing their own personal message on the wishing tree with an opportunity to make a donation to local charity, Dougie Mac. Visitors can also learn about Wedgwood’s heritage through a guided museum tour in the award wining Wedgwood museum. The tour will focus on Josiah’s role as one of the greatest innovators and businessmen of the Industrial Revolution; a craftsman of astonishing skill and tenacity with a deep sense of humanity, as well as the story of Mr. Alexander Chisholm in his professional and private life. Experience Wedgwood’s ‘Made in Britain’ craftsmanship through a guided factory tour, where one can discover the unique artisan skills and techniques in operation, including casting, throwing, figure making, hand painting and gilding, which have been honed over 250 years at Barlaston, the home of Wedgwood.
Visitors will also have the opportunity make their own Christmas presents through pot throwing, plate decoration and bauble decorating. The works of art will then be fired and can be sent to visitors’ homes in time to give as gifts.
Finally visitors can relax and enjoy a delicious Christmas menu in its all day restaurant ‘Dining Hall’ or afternoon tea in the Wedgwood Tea room, with a distinctly Christmassy twist.
