At Beyond Bespoke our antennae is constantly twitching for the coolest and most coveted pieces from the world of British luxury, whether it’s a bespoke drinks cabinet from Linley or a show-stopping pair of heels from Rupert Sanderson. But best of British also means the people that make our nation great – the film stars and the fashion designers, the sportspeople and the singers. From Boris Johnson to Benedict Cumberbatch, Stirling Moss to Stella McCartney, Dame Judi Dench to Jackie Stewart, each week we will be shining a spotlight on one of our national treasures – what they do, what they wear, and who they’re doing it with… starting with British Formula 1 driver and all-round BB favourite, JENSON BUTTON MBE.
Up to speed: News on the street is that Jenson, who is signed to McLaren, is in pole position to co-present Top Gear alongside Chris Evans (fittingly, Button was named one of the “Men of the Year” in both 2009 and 2011 by the show). Jenson and the BBC both refuse to comment on speculation, but seeing more of Jenson on our screens could only be a good thing.
Home truth: While no big fan of the gym, Jenson trains every day and loves the open air, having completed four half Iron Man triathalons. “I’m a very outdoorsy person,” he has said in the past. We are inclined to believe him.
His people: Friendship is important to Jenson and and his two triathlon chums, part-time racing drivers who work in corporate hospitality, share the same ankle tattoo of a Japanese character meaning number one. Jenson married the Japanese supermodel Jessica Michibata (above) in Hawaii last December. A finer looking couple we would like to meet. What’s the betting we see the headline “Cute as a Button” in the papers sometime soon?
Jenson’s style: When he’s off-duty and not in his race kit romper suit, Jenson favours a smart-casual look – simple tees, relaxed trousers and, of course, great sunglasses to protect against that famous Monaco glare. Oh, and his beloved Haviana flip-flops – don’t forget the flip-flops.
