London-based design studio, 1508 London, recently restored an exclusive property in the heart of Belgravia, valued at £18 million. We caught up with Louise Wicksteed, creative director and partner, who revealed all about the sense of grandeur of Project Pearl, from the bespoke plasterwork ceiling to the herringbone parquet flooring
What was the brief for the project?
The 1508 team was tasked with redesigning and refurbishing the interior of this ground floor and lower ground floor apartment; the design brief centred around the restoration of classical period details and introduction of fresh, modern materials and a controlled palette to create a luxurious, timeless feel.
Can you describe the property?
The impressive scale and potential light of the principal rooms struck me as soon as I visited the property. Throughout the design process we wanted to work with and enhance these elements. By re-introducing sympathetic period detailing but keeping everything in a consistent palette of off whites & greys, it created a beautifully grand and detailed space yet one which is calm and timeless at the same time.
What was the biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge was to maintain the period feeling of the property whilst introducing a fresh new feel. The 1508 team worked alongside a heritage consultant to recreate and enhance the Regency period features throughout.
Why does the design work so well?
How does your product differ from your competitors? There is so much, but from a design perspective the interior really enhances the classical proportions and heritage of the property. Throughout you can see examples of true craftsmanship and attention to detail from the Stevensons of Norwich bespoke plasterwork ceiling, through to the Weldon herringbone parquet flooring, 17th century antique chandeliers and impressive marble fireplace in the formal reception from Jamb. Each element has been carefully considered and sourced through some of the best companies in London.
Do you have any exciting projects in the pipeline for 2016?
It’s been an exciting and busy start to the year, in the coming months 1508 London will begin the development of a property on the prestigious Lowndes Square in Knightsbridge.
