As a teenager, designer Bella Freud fantasised about owning a pair of Cutler and Gross sunglasses. Now she’s collaborating with the brand – and the result is an exceedingly cool limited-edition collection of sunglasses
Collaborations are nothing new in the world of luxury but every so often one comes along that really gets our style antennae twitching. Such is the case with the recent collaboration between designer Bella Freud and eyewear company Cutler and Gross, two of our favourite homegrown brands, both of whom share a passion for creativity, substance and wit synonymous with quintessential British style.
Interpreted in bold black Black Panther and in turtleshell – Super Fox acetate matched with imperial green and bronze mirror lenses – the Bella Freud X Cutler and Gross collection of luxury sunglasses goes on sale this month, produced in only 25 numbered models and hand-crafted in Italy. The logos of both brands are subtly engraved on the temple, along with the instantly recognisable Bella Freud dog logo, each with a numbered edition, while the frame cloth and the cover slip is also customised.
“Cutler and Gross are pioneers of fashion eyewear,” explains Bella Freud. “I fantasised as a teenager about owning a pair of their sunglasses, if I had the money, so I am overjoyed to be collaborating with them on this limited edition. My inspiration comes from the reggae stars and freedom fighters of the 1970s, their integrity and their glamour, hidden behind reflective lenses, increases their fascination.’
Marie Wilkinson, Design Director of Cutler and Gross, adds: “It’s so exciting to work with Bella Freud and her unique vision of the world. She belongs to these individuals who make a difference.”
Bella Freud X Cutler and Gross collection will be available at Bella Freud and Cutler and Gross boutiques in London and worldwide exclusively on bellafreud.com and on cutlerandgross.com from June 2016 at £354
