Cutler and Gross unveil SS2017 collection

Posted on by Beyond Bespoke

Cutler and Gross unveil their new SS2017 collection at Mido, the premiere eyewear trade show in Milan. Their sunglasses are the perfect bespoke fashion accessories for spring/summer.

Founded in 1969, the British luxury eyewear brand combines the finest Italian craftsmanship with a fresh modern style. Each pair of sunglasses and optical frames features their trademark numbered design.

Inspired by the tension between the technological landscape and the natural world, the collection is underpinned by a provocative campaign shot by globally renowned portrait photographer Platon. In the past Platon has undertaken award-winning work for the New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Vogue and GQ, as well as photographing some of the world’s most powerful leaders, and creative icons.

We are going through one of the most transformative periods in the history of the planet – the fourth industrial revolution

Platon says: “We are pushing technology at a faster rate than we can control and with this comes challenging, unexpected consequences that have the potential to harm the planet and disrupt the natural order. I wanted to create a set of images that related to this in terms of style and self-expression. It’s a dialogue with the unnatural, technological word of speed and innovation and the natural world in which Mother Nature bites back.”

The collection features 12 models, which are each available in three colours. The collection includes six new styles, and six classic styles which have been reinvented. Highlights include the petal shaped lugs of the 1241 and the patterned temple core of the 1239, which contrast with the modern 1249, and the 1246 with Zeiss silver mirrored lenses and silver illusion Italian acetate.

The 1249 is available in limited edition uniquely for SS2017 in classic navy blue with gold plated metal and flat gold lenses. Each piece is number stamped individually in a production run of 200, which will be available through select retailers and in Cutler and Gross flagship stores.

The frames are crafted by hand in the company’s dedicated factory in Cadore, Italy, from the finest Italian acetate and high-grade metals. The importance of commissioning bespoke glasses with quality is one of the key philosophies of the brand, with each pair taking four to six weeks to produce. Each frame is manufactured by an expert frame maker, making each pair unique.

The brands iconic sunglasses and opticals has a long list recognisable clientele including the legendary David Hockney, Sir Elton John and Madonna, as well as influential artists and style leaders including Rihanna, Alicia Keys and Kate Moss.

The new collection is available to buy at Cutler and Gross stores online and at selected stockists
