The acclaimed Chelsea Flower Show is quickly approaching, being held from the 23rd – 27th May. It celebrates the pinnacle of horticulture, with unique flowers, and spectacular gardens will be showcased and judged, the winner taking home the RHS Gold medal. The World’s best garden designers and nurserymen collaborate to create an array of gardens, particularly Show Gardens, Fresh Gardens and Artisan Gardens.

The RHS ensure that there is something for everyone whether it’s the window boxes, patio displays or country estates, the combinations of colours and unique flowers provide something for everyone. The five days will consist of nine Show Gardens, five fresh Gardens, nine Artisan Gardens and more than 100 floral displays. The masterpiece of the Chelsea Flower Show is ‘The Great Pavilion’: a 12,000sq metre marquee where over 100 exhibits from the world’s best nurseries, growers and florists will be put on display. Part of this is the Discovery Zone, by Scott Miracle-Gro, who encourages the public, particularly children, to get involved.  The ‘Come to your Senses Eco Garden’ is an interactive way to help tackle the overstimulated and sedentary lives of children in Britain – encouraging children to immerse themselves within the haven of a garden. Another thing to look out for are the Burncoose Nurseries who educate the visitors about the lesser-known plants pollinated by flies, moths and beetles.

The Show Gardens draws many seasoned visitors to marvel at the exceptionally high standards of design. Drawing on a variety of themes, the Bermuda Triangle is more contemporary, representing an active volcanic landscape as tropical planting is interwoven into the landscape. James Basson, returning in hope of a third RHS Gold medal, has designed ‘The M&G Garden’. Inspired by the unique environment of Malta, he chooses to explore the cyclical relationship between destruction and creation as a means of highlighting the urgent need to try to preserve the fragile balance of our planet. The design is intricate, as the garden is situated within a quarry separated into a series of spaces, each with its own ecology from water through to cliff.
