So the end of the motoring season is nigh, and as usual the curtain comes down this weekend, with a bang – the Goodwood Revival.
Lord March’s event is a nostalgic celebration of Goodwood’s golden era, from 1948 until it was closed for safety reasons in 1966. Since 1998 the Revival has been at the forefront of historic racing, but with the brave but ingenious idea of encouraging everyone to dress up in period outfits, it has become as much a social event as a motoring one. It attracts famous names from all eras of racing, and this year’s bevy of stars will include Le Mans legend Derek Bell MBE, Dickie Attwood, Jochen Mass, ex-Ferrari F1 Driver Jean Alesi, 9-times Le Mans Winner Tom Kristensen, F1 winner-turned race commentator David Coulthard, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner (who, as he will no doubt demonstrate, is no slough behind the wheel) and literally dozens of others. But the real stars are the cars, with some of the greatest sports-racing cars ever built banging door handles and lighting up their tyres around this spectacular circuit. It is now too late to get your hands on tickets for this weekend – as usual it’s a sell out. But you can follow all the action live online at www.goodwood.com. If you’ve never been, for goodness sake go next year!
