Pancakes with a very British Twist

Whether you prefer sweet or savoury, we have a number of pancake recipes that are inspired by quintessentially British ingredients. 

For those with a sweet tooth....

1. Blueberry Lemon Pancakes with Lemon Curd 

Preparation: 10 mins.
Cool time:
20 mins.

A zesty recipe bursting with flavour!

1 cup of pastry flour
1 large egg
1 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
1 cup of buttermilk
3 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup of fresh blueberries
2 tablespoons of butter, melted and cooled
Oil or butter for cooking 
Lemon Curd 


1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda & salt.
2. Then add the egg, buttermilk, butter and lemon juice. Stir until the mixture has combined- don't worry if there are lumps!
3. Heat a griddle pan or cast iron skillet over medium heat ad grease with oil or butter.
4. Grab a 1/4 cup measuring cup, fill it up half way and pour the butter onto the pan. Add the blueberries on top, wait until bubbles begin to form and then flip the pancakes over. Cook for around 3 minutes.
5. Add copious amounts of Fortnum & Mason's lemon curd and enjoy!

 2. Strawberries & Cream Pancakes

A recipe inspired by our nation's much beloved Victoria sponge...

Preparation: 15 mins.
Total: 20 mins.
Serves: 4.


3 cups of sliced British strawberries
1/4 cup of sugar
2 cups of pancake mixture
1 cup of milk
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla
2 eggs 
As much of Fortnum & Mason's Strawberry & Champagne
preserve as you wish!


1. Mix strawberries and 1/4 cup of sugar, set this aside. Heat griddle or skillet over medium high heat, grease with cooking spray or oil. 
2. Stir pancake mix, 2 tablespoons of sugar, the vanilla and eggs until combines. Pour mixture onto the hot griddle. 
3. Cook until edges are dry and turn until the mixture looks golden. Serve with strawberries, a good dolloping of whipping cream and ample amounts of Fortnum's strawberry & champagne preserve

3. Salted Caramel & Praline Pancakes 

A recipe for those true choc -a-holics!

1/4 cup of sugar
2 cups of pancake mixture
1 cup of milk
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla
2 eggs 
A spoonful, or two, or three of Wilkin & Sons Spreadable Salted Caramel
2 Chopped bananas (optional!)

For the praline sauce:
3/4 cup of light brown sugar
1 teaspoon of cornstarch
1/2 cup of water
2 tablespoons of softened butter
1/3 cup of chopped pecans
1/2 cup of powdered sugar


1. Stir pancake mix, 2 tablespoons of sugar, the vanilla and eggs until combines. Pour mixture onto the hot griddle.  
3. To make the praline sauce you should combine the sugar and cornstarch in a microwave bowl. Then stir in the water and add the butter. Microwave for 3 minutes or until the mixture has thickened. Cook until mixture is golden. 
4. Encase the pancakes with Wilkin & Sons Spreadable salted caramel, and pour the praline sauce for the finishing touch!
5. If you're feeling too guilty about the chocolate overload, why not add in there some chopped bananas!

4. Marmite Pancakes

You'll either love, or hate them!

100g of plain flour
2 eggs
300ml of semi-skimmed milk
1tsp of sunflower oil or vegetable, plus extra for frying
Pinch of salt
A handful of berries 
As many spoonfuls of marmite as you can handle!


1. Follow the BBC Good Food Guide's simple steps for the making of the perfect pancake. 
2. For those true marmite lovers, add the marmite to the mixture itself, or for those who desire a more subtle taste, simply drizzle over the pancakes and berries. 
3. Make another batch because the first was just far too scrumptious! 

5. English Breakfast Pancakes 

Preparation: 10 mins
Cooking time: 25 minutes
Serves: 8 

240g of bacon
7 medium eggs
Free range pork sausages 
Jar of tomato, onion & garlic relish 
100g of plain flour
150g of Dove's Farm Organic Speciality Malthouse flour
1tsp of salt
300ml of milk
30g of butter 


1. We recommend you follow Waitrose's simple steps for the creation of a pancake that really couldn't get more British! Feel free to add any of those fry up essentials that you feel the recipe has missed out- personally, I think it could do with some of Fortnum's utterly delectable Tomato sauce, the perfect finishing touch to any breakfast!
