RHS Chelsea Flower Show Lets You Discover the Science Behind Nature

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show (23-27 May), sponsored by M&G Investments, will be bringing pioneering science and technology to the forefront with the return of the Discovery Zone.  The area will demonstrate the significance of science and research behind plants and the impact they have on our society.

Visitors will immerse themselves in the power of mighty greens and discover the enigmatic nature of plants that thrive in the dark in the Discovery Zone, educating children and adults alike.  From cancer-buster properties to improving psychological health and the environment, the dedicated area will observe how horticulture is being used to transform the world we live in.

Plant. Grow. Survive
Inspired by the coverage of refugees across the world, AutoPot Global Ltd will create a greenhouse structure that demonstrates how sustainable growing technology can be used where natural resources are scarce.  Within the exhibition space, designed to represent a camp, the piece will explore the possibility of erecting greenhouses nearby refugee camps that would see those living there be able to ‘grow their own’ food.

At Home with Plants
Home plants are in vogue right now, with an entire display dedicated to them at the Flower Show.  Indoor Garden Design’s display will observe the benefits that various house-plants on the occupants regarding the psychological, general and emotional health of the occupants.  In addition to being visually desirable, visitors will have the chance to see how plants can create a micro climate to clean everyday pollutants from the air, with the aim of encouraging people to bring more easy-to-care-for plants into their homes.

Delight in the Dark
Unearthing the wonderfully weird underworld of plants, the British Ecological Society is inviting guests to explore the amazing nature behind varieties that flourish in the dark.  A team of leading researchers will exhibit their investigations around plants that thrive in gloomy conditions and the adaptations that enable them to create wonder without light.

Come to Your Senses
As green spaces are necessary for the upkeep of mental health, Miracle-Glo has created their very own eco-therapy garden. Designed to escape our digitally-driven lives, this piece focuses on our five senses: sight, smell, sound, touch and taste.  Aiming to challenge the sedentary lives of children in the UK, this exhibit showcases a natural environment to evoke all the senses, reducing stress and improving overall wellbeing.
