Tracey Emin snapped up the Rolls-Royce Paddington, named Spirit of Paddington, in aid of the NSPCC at last night’s auction
In aid of the NSPCC and the new film release of Paddington, some of the biggest names in popular culture, including Lulu Guinness, Rankin and Hamleys, have designed their own versions of Paddington. Last night saw the auction for a number of these designs with Tracey Emin victoriously bidding for Spirit of Paddington and donating back to the NSPCC for future display.
Giles Taylor, Director of Design at Rolls-Royce designed the Spirit of Paddington and commented, “I am honoured that our Paddington has inspired such generosity from Tracey Emin, one of the nation’s most eminent artists. We have all thoroughly enjoyed bringing such a well-loved character to life and are delighted that our Charles Rolls-inspired bear has played its part in raising vital funds for the NSPCC.”
The design was inspired by the company’s founder Hon. CS Rolls, who was a keen adventurer and pilot and sees Paddington sporting a brown leather duffel coat, cravat and MK8 racing goggles.
The evening raised a total of £462,500, with the hope of raising more on the online auction ending on January 7.
