Spring Clean your beauty Routine

Posted on by Abbie Coombes

The ritual spring clean doesn't have to be restricted to your home, why not give your beauty routine a revamp to ensure that you are giving your body the attention that it deserves.

When we think about firming up our cheeks, eradicating those crows feet and wrinkles on our forehead, the desire to turn to cosmetic surgery is apparent. Lumity has compiled together an abundance of evidence to suggest that facial yoga, could easily contest cosmetic surgery in terms of its effectiveness to combat signs of ageing.

A new study claims 20 weeks of facial yoga exercises will result in firmer, more youthful looking skin.

The research from Northwestern University in Illinois showed that 30-minutes of exercising the muscles in your face made participants look as much as three years younger.

“Now there is some evidence that facial exercises may improve facial appearance and reduce some visible signs of ageing,” said lead author and dermatologist Murad Alam.

So instead of leaping on the fillers and face-lift bandwagon why not try these six anti-ageing facial exercises to transform your face without any cosmetic procedures.

Smooth Your Forehead

Go into this with eyes wide open…..literally. According to Annelise Hagen, author of ‘The Yoga Face: Eliminate Wrinkles with the Ultimate Natural Facelift’, opening your eyes as wide as you can and holding for as long as possible will work the muscles around your eyes and forehead. It’ll also help eliminate the negative effects of frowning.

Banish Crows Feet

Think of this move as winking with your lower eyelids. Try to lift them without moving any other part of your face and then add a little bit of added pressure by touching the side of your eyes where your crows feet are with the tips of your fingers. Continue to lift and release several times. This will work the muscles around your eyes and firm them.

Firm Up Your Cheeks

Puff up your cheeks like a puffer fish and shift the air from one cheek to the other. Repeat this five or six times before gently releasing the air by making a small ‘o’ with your mouth. Do this full exercise three to four times over to firm up your cheeks.

Lift and Firm Your Neck Skin

Look slowly up to the sky with your mouth pulled into a long ‘o’. Use your index fingers to stroke a line between your mouth and the edges of your nose.

Facial yoga expert Danielle Collins swears by this move to lift and firm the skin on your neck. “It’s perfect if you use your phone too much and have tech neck,” she explains in one of her many Youtube videos.

Strengthen the Muscles Around Your Mouth

Show yourself a little love and help keep your pout in check at the same time. Danielle says this simple exercise of quite literally blowing yourself a kiss helps tone the muscles around your mouth. “Extend your lips and blow the air out and along your hand,” she explains.

Repeat this four or five times then press two fingers to your lips, release and repeat the whole thing three or four times more.

Lift Nasal Labial Folds

Forget facial fillers and try this instead. Give a big toothy grin and then use your fingertips to push onto the creases between your nose and lips. Then lift your cheeks. “The facial muscles push back,” says Annelise. “That’s what makes them stronger and fuller.” Repeat five times.

To compliment these facial yoga techniques, Lumity's facial oil is the perfect accompaniment. Lumity's facial oil contains a blend of ingredients that have been scientifically proven to provide the best source of specific nutrients that provide the care that the skin craves. This combination of therapeutic oils and facial exercises will soon make you question whether cosmetic surgery really is the way forward?
