With just days to go until the start of Goodwood Festival of Speed, we take a look at the treats in store for fans of our British motoring greats
Aston Martin arrives at the Festival of Speed with a line-up of exclusive sports cars and super saloons which, together, represent its biggest presence at the Festival. Goodwood patrons are to be treated to a feast of ‘firsts’, including the world debut of the new GT version of Aston Martin’s stalwart DB9, and the UK debut of the motorsport-inspired, and now sold-out, Vantage GT12 (below) and the global dynamic debut of the strictly-limited luxurious new Lagonda Taraf super saloon.
Aston Martin will also be running examples of its V12 Vantage S Roadster and luxurious Rapide S four-door, four-seat sports car, and there will also be the rare opportunity to see the CC100 – Aston Martin’s centenary celebration concept car from 2013 – in action on the hill. Meanwhile, the Lagonda Taraf will make its global public debut. Previously unveiled on static display only, Aston Martin has chosen the Goodwood event to reveal the sight, and sound, of its latest V12-engined super saloon in motion.
In addition, the stunning £1.8million, 800bhp+ track-only hypercar, the Aston Martin Vulcan, will hit the hillclimb.
Two famous record-breaking Bentleys, separated by 85 years, are the highlights of the brand’s strong presence at this year’s Festival of Speed. Both the Continental GT Speed (below), recently piloted into the record books by Luther and The Wire actor Idris Elba, and the celebrated 1930 Blue Train car will be at Goodwood. This year is the 85th anniversary of that most famous Bentley Boy adventure – the Blue Train race. The car that accomplished the feat will be at GFoS running up the world-renowned, 1.16-mile hillclimb, keeping the spirit of Captain Woolf Barnato alive.
Fans of the highly acclaimed Mono, the world’s first road-legal Formula-inspired single seat supercar, will be excited to hear that Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) is launching its Model Year 2016 version at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Aimed at drivers who seek a purist driving experience and for whom design, engineering, excellence and performance are paramount, the Mono can be viewed at STAND 3 & 19.
McLaren fans are in for a treat this year, with the McLaren 570S Coupé making its global dynamic debut when it joins the famous Supercar Run. It will be joined by the McLaren P1™ GTR and 650S Le Mans, both strictly limited in production and rarely seen in public, and marking the first time McLaren has ever demonstrated models from all three of its recently announced product tiers: Sports Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series. In addition, the popular McLaren House will return located as last year, adjacent to the iconic Goodwood House overlooking the Hill course, with cars, guest speakers and historic McLaren memorabilia honouring the ‘Flatout and Fearless’ theme of this year’s Festival.
Visitors will also be invited to be photographed behind the wheel of a McLaren 650S Spider in return for a donation of £2 to the halow project (www.halowproject.org.uk), the selected beneficiary of the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Commemorating 45 years, the Range Rover family is represented at Festival of Speed with the UK debut of the Range Rover SVAutobiography, the most luxurious Range Rover ever. Taking centre stage on the Land Rover stand, the SVAutobiography is the ultimate in design sophistication and craftsmanship and is identified by its distinctive duo-tone paint scheme.
Taking part in the famous Goodwood Hillclimb this year is Land Rover’s latest production vehicle; the award-winning Range Rover Sport SVR. The Range Rover Sport SVR represents the pinnacle of dynamic performance for Land Rover and is set to ascend “the hill” impressing crowds with its speed and soundtrack twice daily. Powered by a 550hp 5.0-litre supercharged V8, the Range Rover Sport SVR is capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds.
Jaguar will give debuts to four new cars at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015. The world premiere of the recently announced, enhanced Jaguar XJ range on the Jaguar Land Rover stand will be marked by the debut appearance of a very special version of British marque’s flagship luxury car, the Jaguar XJR Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV) for Bloodhound SSC.
