There are many trends for the year ahead that you might like to familiarise yourself with before venturing into the style unknown, from the exact shade of paint for your living room in 2016 to the flowers you should be growing in your garden. But what about the colour of coat you should be wearing this year, the shades you should be embracing in your spring wardrobe, for example? Colour expert Melissa Nicholson from Kettlewell has created four mood boards to help you to identify a colour trend to suit you…
So what colour is going to be affecting our lives in 2016? Actually, it’s not one colour, but two. The colours of the year for 2016 are Rose Quartz and Serenity. Why two? According to Pantone, “As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colours that psychologically fulfil our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent… Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
Here at Kettlewell we embrace colour trends but acknowledge that not all trends are going to work for everyone. Whether you’re a raven haired beauty or soft blonde bombshell it’s good to know which trends to adopt for your personal colouring. We have looked at the SS16 catwalk collections and Pantone predictions and have created four mood boards to enable you to identify a colour trend to suit you.
If you are bright-eyed and fair in colouring, seek out light neutrals and accompany with bright splashes. Experiment with Light Aqua and Coral and watch your eyes sparkle and your skin glow.
Is your look soft and blended with cool undertones? Adorn yourself in swathes of cool neutrals, blended with soft pinks, lilacs and smokey hues. Pantone’s Rose Quartz and Serenity will look dreamy on you and shopping will be a breeze this year.
Do you have a golden glow yet softness to your colouring? Follow nature and its rich, earthy shades spiced up with a touch of vibrant magic. We’re seeing a Spanish influence coming through with fiery reds, ochres and earthy neutrals. Be bold and embrace your rebellious side.
There will be something of ‘high contrast’ in your look whether you are very pale or dark. Choose intensely saturated hues combined with darkest black or purest white to accentuate your strong personality. We love the new Snorkel Blue mixed with Acid Yellow for a refreshing yet bold combination.
