Fun in the sun – Outdoor games for kids

Posted by , 18th July, 2017

For me and, I’m sure, many others, summer always brings back fond childhood memories of water fights and paddling pools in the back garden. It was a ritual that I hope to one day share with my own children; if not for the fun that you have as a family, then for at least letting them cool off from the sweltering heat whilst the grown-ups indulge in a classic drinks garden party. Seeing the neighbours setting up their children’s paddling pool in their driveway this year caused me to think that whether you have enough garden or not, there are countless ways to create those all-important summer memories for the kids.

You can’t go wrong with a classic game of Swingball, whether there’s one player or two it is guaranteed to keep you entertained, but once things get competitive, it’s time to cool down; perhaps with a water fight using these Nerf Super Soaker Dartfire Blasters. It could even be as simple as getting a Hozelock Round Sprinkler Pro attachment, to make a fun game of avoiding the water as it spins.

So that the kids can really chill out, this Canopy Play Pool allows them to splash around in icy water whilst being shielded from the sun. Why not serve some yummy mocktails and fresh ice cold squash in these fun Pineapple Cups. Or, to make use of a long and narrow garden, how about this Aqua Slide?

Whilst also reliving your own childhood, invaluable family bonds can be fortified by gathering sheets, throws and pillows, and building a den. A garden isn’t necessary here, as the castle or fort or woodland cabin could be magically created in a small courtyard or even inside and is sure to get little ones’ imaginations running wild, with no technology in sight.

If you’re planning on making the most of the sun in the park instead, it may be a good idea to bring this Wild West Play Tent, to keep the kids sunburn-free. It also doubles as a ready-made den where they can play to their hearts’ content, without you having to bring your whole collection of pillows and throws outside the house.
