Mike Bowman is an established landscape and portrait painter. His work in oils reflects his travels not only in the UK but throughout France and Italy, with landscapes of Provence, Venice, Tuscany and Umbria an instinctive response to the Impressionist style.
Born in 1943, his early work in the 1960s developed largely along abstract lines and was represented by Liberty of London, before evolving into a more figurative form of landscape, which has remained until the present day. The effects of the seasons, weather and sunlight and their contrasting patterns of colour and tone give his work a sense of moment and place.
Notable commissions include murals for the Royal Mail, private hospitals and the private yacht of a Middle Eastern client, as well as portraits of Steven Norris MP, Admiral Sir Ian Garnett and Dr Stephen Venner, Bishop of Dover. His work has been collected at home and abroad and is represented in both private collections and public institutions.
