Although they will never beat your Mum’s, Urbanologie have compiled a list of the next best places to enjoy your Sunday roast.  Adding some refinement to the traditional British roast, here are some of the best restaurants in London, boasting unique catering that you can’t miss out on:

The Harwood Arms
Hidden away in the back streets of Fulham, ‘The Harwood Arms’ offers award-winning food and wine in a casual and relaxed setting. This long-established and popular gastropub (co-owned by two Michelin-starred chef Brett Graham, from The Ledbury) is the only Michelin-starred pub in London. Justly famous for its proper Sunday roast – think thick-cut Hereford rib-eye served on a board with super-crisp roasties and all the trimmings. A real British treat. Make sure you book, The Harwood Arms fills up quickly.

Maze Grill
Gordon Ramsay’s Maze Grill concept now inhabits two further sites across town (both in Chelsea). The Mayfair restaurant takes inspiration from Manhattan grill rooms with a dash of Asian flourish. For their more traditional Sunday roast: a slow braised shin of beef, Yorkshire puddings and a rich bone marrow gravy alongside unlimited (!) sides for the table. A vast selection of sides consist of Wagyu fat roast potatoes, kale & confit shallots and cauliflower gratin.

Hawksmoor

Steak restaurant ‘Hawksmoor’ has built a deservedly ‘beefy’ and flawless reputation for being one of London’s best steakhouses. As a carnivore’s paradise, they aim “to serve the best Sunday Roast in London”, with the star billing – the slow-cooked (and flavoursome) 55-days rump steak. Each lunch is served with giant Yorkshire puddings, goose-fat soaked roast potatoes, vegetables and lashings of rich bone marrow gravy. The slap-up indulgent roast is priced at £20 and is available at their branches across London (from Spitalfields to Borough).

Corrigan Mayfair
Corrigan’s Mayfair is home to acclaimed celebrity Irish chef, Richard Corrigan. Corrigan’s Mayfair sets about redefining the concept of quintessential British and Irish cuisine – fusing seasonal produce with his unmistakable flair and twists. Inspired by Richard’s humble, rural upbringing and interweaving it with modern, luxury and stylish cooking – guests are invited to enjoy their traditional dinner in a timeless gentleman’s club setting.

Meals on wheels is the order of the day for their exceptionally priced Sunday Lunch. Order from a short (but perfectly formed) list of starters, such as Cornish potted mackerel or cured salmon with heritage beetroot. Diners can choose between a variety of delicious Sunday dishes. Ones that particularly stand out are the dry-aged roast beef accompanied with horseradish and Yorkshire puddings or the roasted pork belly accompanied with apple and braised cabbage.

Blacklock
Blacklock, the brainchild of Hawksmoor’s Gordon Ker, specialises in chops and only chops. The Sunday menu at Blacklock plays host to gutsy, wholesome roasts (cooked over English oak) of lamb, rare-breed pork and Cornish beef, from award-winning butchers. If you’re less decisive, don’t worry! You can go all in and enjoy some of each for the all-in combo, priced at £20 per person. Roasts are presented on a hefty sharing platter, complete with a bountiful bevy of seasonal sides: goose-fat roast potatoes, giant Yorkshire puddings and bone marrow gravy. Lunch is dished up on long sharing tables in the bustling industrial-chic interiors (think exposed brickwork & hanging lights etc.).

Come hungry and make sure you save space for the signature dessert of white chocolate cheesecake, served family-style at the table. If this tickles your fancy then make sure you check out their latest restaurant in the City, set in a Grade II listed building on the grounds of London’s first meat market.
